2010 Main Line League
The Men’s team will be participating in the 2010 Main Line League this spring semester. The league is run by American Water Polo and will run from February to early March. Check out the season schedule page for the competition schedule.
2009 Regular Season Recap
The Men’s team finished with a strong 7-1 record this season. The single loss was a 1 point defeat by Villanova, but the team rallied with a 4 goal victory during the second regular season meeting between the two teams. The final win-loss total and point differential placed Penn in the top spot in the Mid-Atalntic Conference’s regular season standings; however, the team did not get to compete in the conference championship tournament.
Some of the notable games included an electric win against Yale (at Yale with a rowdy Bulldog home crowd), a tough 5 point win against Army, and wins against Grand Valley State and Villanova. The guys will continue play this spring by participating in the Main Line League, and also look forward to another successful CWPA season next year.
One of the most significant achievements this year was the commitment of 12 new freshmen and 8 grad students. This was perhaps our biggest class of new players ever, and each has contributed in games and during practice. Three seniors will be leaving after the 09-10 school year, but the great group of underclassmen remaining will surely keep Penn’s legacy going strong.
Finally, a big thanks to Coach Merlo for all his effort, time, and dedication to this program.
2009 Team
Welcome to a new season of water polo! The men’s team is coming off a 2008 season highlighted by a perfect 8-0 CWPA record, a second consecutive Mid-Atalantic Championship, and a 10th place finish at the National Championship Tournament. The 2009 team is welcoming 20 new members consisting of 12 new freshmen and 8 grad students, and is welcoming back 11 players from last year.

2008 Season Recap
The men’s team stormed through the 2008 CWPA regular season by capturing its second consecutive Mid-Atlantic Championship title. Winning all 8 regular season games netted Penn the 1st place seed at the Mid-Atlantic Championship Tournament, hosted in 2008 by Penn State University. The team played its way to the championship game, where it faced Penn State for a thrilling showdown. State jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, backed by strong cheers from the home crowd. However, the Penn players quickly regathered themselves and pulled out a 13-7 win to capture the division title. Not only was this Penn’s second division title in 2 years, but it also marked a second consecutive trip to the National Collegiate Club Championship tournament where the team placed 10th overall.
Special shout outs to Captains Ben Naecker and Zach Zwarenstein and Coach Antonio Merlo for a fantastic season. Let’s do it again in 2009!
